0ur food security Program aims at making measurable and sustainable improvements in gardening vegetable production and resource utilization through instruction and skills improvement in growing vegetables, marketing practices and monitoring the gardens.
We provide direct technical assistance to farmers through field workers, who work with the communities to promote attitudes and systems, while enhancing farmersí skills in sustainable farming. CDC does not simply give farmers new tools but empower rural farmers with the skills needed to generate increased production and profit, with knowledge, and promoting respect for the environment while improving the quality of life of the community as a whole. CDC is working with over 400 households around Mthatha, hence having a positive effect in their social and economical needs.
Our objective is to increase food availability and access through improved organic farming systems, revitalise entrepreneurship and promote market systems for the products, hence creating self-employment while breaking down the circles of poverty and dependency.
